Dirty Dozen challenge

50 is just a number

50 is just a number - found what was lost with DD

Towards the end of 2025, the four of us, Maisie, Tina, Fedra and me, made a decision that felt equal parts exciting and daunting—we signed up for the Deadly Dozen race in June 2026. What started as a bold idea quickly became a shared commitment and we began training with real intention.

Through the cold, dark winter months, we showed up—twice a week, every week—at 17:15 sharp after long days at work. Some evenings passed in focused silence, others filled with laughter, banter, and the occasional burst of frustration. But no matter the mood, we kept turning up for each other.

There are still moments when we can’t quite believe what we’ve taken on. Yet with every session, we feel it—growing stronger, standing taller, and becoming not just fitter, but better versions of ourselves.

The Deadly Dozen isn’t just a race—it’s a test of grit, resilience, and relentless determination. Blending running with functional strength training, this high-intensity challenge pushes athletes to their limits in a structured, repeatable format. What began in the UK has grown into a global movement, inspiring people of all fitness levels to measure progress, build strength, and redefine what they’re capable of.

At its core, the event is simple—but far from easy. Competitors complete 12 laps of a 400-metre track, and after every lap, they face a demanding “Labour” station designed to test strength, endurance and mental toughness under fatigue. With no mud or unpredictable obstacles, the focus stays on performance, allowing every effort to be measured, compared, and improved.

Created by Jason Curtis in Macclesfield, the Deadly Dozen began as a single-track event built on accessibility and universal standards. Its appeal quickly spread, evolving into an international phenomenon with events in over 30 countries. Today, athletes compete solo, in pairs, or as part of relay teams, all connected through global leaderboards that celebrate progress and performance.

Strong. Capable. Unstoppable.

Life after 50 isn’t about slowing down—it’s about rising up with more strength, confidence, and purpose than ever before.

Building muscle now is an act of self-care and rebellion against the idea that age defines your limits. Muscle is magic—it keeps you vibrant, mobile, and full of energy. Every rep you lift is a promise to yourself: I’m still growing. I’m still evolving. I’m still powerful.

For women over 50, weight training isn’t just about fitness—it’s about reclaiming your strength and independence. It’s about proving that progress doesn’t stop when life changes—it transforms with you.

Three strength sessions a week can rewrite your story, one lift at a time.

And remember—the mindset is everything. Move to celebrate your body, not punish it. Exercise is freedom, resilience and love in motion. You’re not chasing youth; you’re building longevity, vitality and confidence that shines from the inside out.

Age is just a number—strength is your legacy
