Teaching and Training

Lochgilphead Medical Centre is proud to support the training and education of future and developing medical professionals. All trainees will introduce themselves and their role appropriately if you are seeing them.

Medical Students

Lochgilphead Medical Centre is an approved training location for the Scottish Graduate Entry Medical programme (ScotGEM) supported by the Universities of Dundee and St Andrew's. Our students join us for a full year of their undergraduate degree course. You may be asked to speak to or see a ScotGEM student when contacting the practice. They will always be directly supervised by one of the GP Partners and all decisions they make will be directly approved by a GP. If you are seeing a ScotGEM student in the practice, you will also see a GP alongside them.

GP Trainees

Lochgilphead Medical Centre is a GP Training Practice, approved by NHS Education for Scotland. You may be asked to speak to or see a GP Trainee when contacting the practice. These professionals are fully qualified doctors undertaking additional speciality training to become GPs. They will always be indirectly supervised by one of the GP Partners but have a higher degree of autonomy.

GP Fellows

From time to time we may also host GP Fellows undertaking the Rural GP Fellowship. These fully qualified GPs are undertaking additional professional education with our support and as such have autonomy to practice independently day-to-day.

Practice Nurses

We have recently supported members of nursing staff to undertake additional professional qualifications in Practice Nursing and Prescribing.

Your help in training the medical professionals of the future if greatly appreciated. Please direct any queries regarding teaching and training to the Practice Manager or the Educational Supervisor.
